wild-ness

Europe’s largest wild foods harvest market - in Co Wicklow!

Picture yourself wandering down a frosty winter street in a rural, picturesque Irish village, your breath hanging foggily in the air, and your hands warmed by blazing wood-burning braziers and a cup of spiced mulled wine. Imagine the feeling of a unique European Winter-Fest style market here in Ireland. So now, visualise rows of wooden stalls lining both sides of the street, with hundreds of homemade foods on display. This is the culmination of Wild & Slow 2011, an exciting national event, which is designed to showcase and celebrate the best of wild foods that the Garden of Ireland has to offer....

--Wild and Slow website

Wild and Slow will be held at Macreddin Village (Aughrim) at the Brook Lodge over the weekend of 12-13 November.

Suzie & Mike are on the organising committee, and we've gotten agreement that one of those "wooden stalls lining both sides of the street" will be a shared OOOOBY Stall!  So, can you produce something tasty from wild/foraged foods for sale?  The ingredients need to be mostly "wild".  All producers will get to experience manning the stall at what promises to be a unique event, but we'll swap around so you'll also get to walk around and taste the atmosphere (and food!)  This is a great opportunity, whether you can just do some wild preserves or something more complicated.  So start start foraging/cooking, and get in touch to let us know what you'll be bringing.

GIY this Saturday

The Glenealy GIY group meets at the OOOOBY Store this Saturday from 1-2pm.  Everyone welcome, no matter your level of gardening experience and it's free.  There will be a visit to one of the members gardens directly after the meeting.

OOOOBY Pressing

Suzie and Mike were down at the GIY streetfest last weekend in Waterford.  Suzie gave a talk and Mike pressed apples & served fresh juice.  Our apple press has gone out to several groups and families since then, and is still available for hire, but you must book your dates as this is the busy season!

Carraig Dúlra Glasshouse

Our new/recycled glasshouse at Carraig Dúlra farm is almost done!  Thanks to Mickey, Stevo, the Hiker, Fergus, John and lots of our WWOOFERs for all their hard work so far!

Thanks for reading and hope to see you out foraging,
